1846 - 1863 The Navajo conflicts in New Mexico and Arizona led to their forced occupancy of an inhospitable reservation 1851 California admission to the US

Jim Bridger was present in 1851 at the great treaty council held at Fort Laramie to secure the emigrant road from Indians, and he began mapping the Yellowstone area.

The Treaty of Fort Laramie (1851) is negotiated between the United States government and representatives of ten Native American tribes of the Great Plains, including the Lakota, Crow, and Cheyenne. The tribes agree to provide safe passage for westward migrants and permit the construction of roads and forts in their territories in return for an annuity of $50,000 for fifty years. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_American_Old_West

May 1, 1851 The growth of the nation westward brought many new states to the Union by 1850. For each new state added, two new senators and a varying number of representatives crowded into the Capitol building. In 1851 President Millard Filmore decided to enlarge the Capitol to accommodate the new members. https://www.senate.gov/history/1851.htm

July 4, 1851 On the Fourth of July, 1851,  a festive crowd watched the dedication of the cornerstone for the Capitol's expansion. May 1, 1851 - The United States of America participates in the opening ceremony of the first World's Fair in history, the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations, in the Crystal Palace designed by Joseph Paxton, in Hyde Park, London, England. People were still migrating west in covered wagons via wagon trains along the Oregon trail.
The transcontinental railroad would not be complete until after the civil war.
