Safe storage

Records and photos that I have found or been provided with, have not always been stored in a safe manner. I have purchased 2 Schwab5000 fireproof/bombproof file cabinets which now house a majority of the collection of Whitestown history in my possession. Do I need more secure storage? yes!  But this is a good start and finally provides a higher level of safety than previously afforded to these pieces.

I added photos of a New York Central conductors hat to the railroad page.
I also added a new photo to the top of the building & homes page that shows a really cool aerial view of Whitestown.

Additionally, I rearranged several pages. All of the assorted pages that were listed in the dropdown under the homw page tab have been moved to a new menu tab called "assorted". The home tab now only contains the blog & contact pages in it's dropdown menu.

Sharon Walker has allowed me access to these boards covered with old photos (and copies of photos) that belong to the Whitestown Alumni group. It is taking me an average of 60-90 minutes per board to carefully remove each photo, scan them into the computer, and remount them to the boards. There are 25 of these boards!!!
Yes, it is VERY time consuming but I feel it's important to get these things digitized and saved.

After spending several hours scanning a portion of the collection from the Whitestown High School Alumni, I have uploaded the first 83 photos under the school tab.
I have also created a page for the Lincoln Funeral train and added some content.
I also created a page for oddities and mysteries from the history of Whitestown including a giant skeleton that was discovered, a missing treasure, and a nearby ghost town.

I think I underestimated how much time this site would consume.....lol

Hello, my name is Mike Hancock and I am a life long resident of Whitestown Indiana and descended
from the William Laughner family who came here from Greene County Tennessee and settled in the area
of Worth Township in 1849. This area would later become Whitestown in 1851.

Historical information about Whitestown exists in written form in a variety of different locations, but I've always hoped it might be possible to gather as much information together in one place and make it readily available to the citizens of this ever growing town, and that was the inspiration for this website. A digital format to showcase archived information, sort of an online museum of sorts. This site was created on 6/21/2017

Recognition shoud be given to Janice West who has spent many years collecting and saving historical information about Whitestown. Recognition should also be given to Mary Louise Laughner-Hancock and Lois Lindley who took the time to preserve and pass down information about the early days of the town.
